2005 National Finalists
Kaylee Jamison

Update: Katie Zaeh is in her senior year at Princeton University, concentrating in Architecture with a certificate in the Visual Arts. She can most often be found in either the Architecture studio or the Visual Arts Studio. In life outside of studio, she enjoys running road races, teaching first aid for the University's Outdoor Action program, and coordinating Special Olympics Swimming. She recently returned from Botswana, where she spent part of the summer learning how to basket weave. The skills she learned there will be incorporated into her visual arts independent work, which seeks to bridge the gap between art and craft.

What did winning the Heisman mean to you?

"At the time, winning the Wendy's High School Heisman was a reward for my hard work in high school. Over the years, I've realized that winning the Wendy's High School Heisman is not so much the end goal, recognizing a series of achievements, but an inauguration into a community. Though we only see each other for a short time every year, there is a bond between the people who gather and celebrate the new finalists. We look forward to meeting the finalists who are both highly accomplished individuals now, and promising future leaders."

What advice do you have for this year's finalist and their families?

"Enjoy this weekend. You deserve it. You've spent the past four years working non-stop in your communities, in the classroom, and on the playing field - or supporting a scholar athlete, which we all know is just as taxing between driving to 5 am practices and cheering on cold metal bleachers in 40 degree weather. This is your time to jump on the grand piano at FAO Swartz, marvel at the city from the top of Rockefeller Center, consume the questionable street food without question, get as many signatures as possible from former Heisman Trophy winners, and mingle with an awesome group of people in the best city on earth."

Update: Will Jacobs is a Jefferson Scholar in his fourth year at the University of Virginia. In addition to his studies in engineering science and physics, he is working as a research assistant on two projects funded by NASA and the Navy. Will spends his free time competing with UVa triathlon club and playing piano with in the UVa Jazz Ensemble. He is also a shop manager at Community Bikes, an open-access bicycle shop serving the Charlottesville community. Upon completion of his undergraduate education, Will plans to pursue a Ph.D. in theoretical physics.

What did winning the Heisman mean to you?

"The Wendy's High School Heisman family is the most elite and talented group of people that I know. I will always be thankful for the opportunities and the confidence that this program has given me."

What advice do you have for this year's finalist and their families?

"Consider this recognition as only the first hint of the great things that you will accomplish. Always strive to achieve your fullest potential as you contemplate the many choices ahead of you."
