Update:Ashley is a second year graduate student in the Harvard Systems Biology department where she works in the lab of Vamsi Mootha studying mitochondria. Recently she's been working on a DNA variant that they believe may allow some people to respond better to exercise training than others by growing more mitochondria. Ashley has also been volunteering for an after school program called Science Club for Girls, where they do experiments with elementary school girls to get them engaged in science in a fun way.

What did winning the Heisman mean to you?

It was a validation of all the hard work during high school that was put in not only by me, but also by my family, teachers, teammates, and coaches.

What advice do you have for this year's finalist and their families?

Just enjoy the moment, and remember to thank those people that made it possible

Chase Correia

Update: Chase graduated from Yale University in May 2007 with a bachelor's degree in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. That following summer, he went to Kenya and Uganda to observe medical care in Africa and, while there, Chase volunteered at various orphanages and schools. Chase is currently a second year medical student at the University of Nevada School of Medicine where he plan to get a combined MD/MPH degree.

What did winning the Heisman mean to you?

"For me, the most meaningful aspect of the Wendy's High School Heisman program is the family of people in this program who have demonstrated commitment to improving the lives and conditions of those around them. I continue to find inspiration each year by meeting students from across the country who are also committed to this idea."

What advice do you have for this year's finalist and their families?

Enjoy every minute of it. For one weekend, it is all about you!
