What did winning the Heisman mean to you?

"Winning the WHSH has encouraged and supported me to be the person that I am today. It gave me the confidence to stand up and be proud of my achievements and it still motivates me to achieve my goals and reminds me of the importance of my community."

What advice do you have for this year's finalist and their families?

"Live it up! You are in NYC, the city that never sleeps, and neither should you. Some of the best and most memorable moments of your life will happen this weekend and you need to take it all in and enjoy yourselves and celebrate the accomplishment of being a WHSH finalist."

&
Barrett Robinson

Update: In 2008, Barrett completed his final year of residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital/ Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he served as Administrative Chief Resident. He then moved to Chicago to join Prentice Women's Hospital and Maternity Center of Northwestern Memorial Hospital in order to continue his training. Soon thereafter he married, and he and Lauren are eagerly approaching their one year anniversary. Though Barrett is midway through his three year fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine, he is determined to remain a student of his craft for life. He is still avidly seeking ways to "Peter Pan" his educational voyage by avoiding "growing up" and practicing medicine in the real world on his own.

What did winning the Heisman mean to you?

"The High School Heisman Trophy served to encapsulate and gild four years of my life which were among my most memorable, enjoyable, and challenging ever. It's funny that though I'm more than a dozen years removed from receiving the award and have accomplished many other, without fail one of the first things that is said about me whenever a friend or colleague of mine is introducing me to a third party for the first time is 'this is the first-ever winner of the High School Heisman Trophy.' In my opinion, that speaks to the magnitude of the impact that wining the High School Heisman imparts on one's life and career."

What advice do you have for this year's finalist and their families?

"Youth, health, intelligence, physical prowess, and dedication to one's fellow man... you each have been divinely blessed with a myriad of tremendous gifts. There is no greater truth than the following: "To whom much is given, much is required." Do not be tempted to rest on the laurels of your success, but rather live each day as if it were your last and do all within your power to urgently leave your designer footprint on this earth. 'Nuff said; now consider yourselves commissioned and get to work!"
